Yesterday, I finished with only one round…

There should be a limit to being weak. I’ve seen it in my previous life. I was apparently reincarnated to another world. However, I found out that I can use magic! Even though it’s a magic power that ends in just one round, it’s still a big gain. I can do magic. Maybe I can make a living as a mage.

It was a sunny day when we went on a picnic.

Gram, Iona, Maria, and I were going on a picnic to the lakeside in the suburbs. Maria ended up coming along to take care of me.

A horse-drawn carriage was prepared, and Gram held the reins. It’s a pretty nice horse, but I wonder if Maria is taking care of it too? Horse-drawn carriages are very another world after all. I was impressed that my relative Gram was able to handle horses, so I selfishly asked him if I could sit next to him.

After leaving home, we continued to pass by high-class housing for a while. There were not many people and there were not many people. Hmm. Horse-drawn carriages are not as comfortable to sit on as they are in cars. The vibrations were transmitted directly to my butt.

Naturally, I sat there because I had a lot of questions I wanted to ask. Especially about weapons.

“Dad, what kind of weapons do you have?”

“Oh! What, Raul! Are you interested in weapons? Of course, you’re almost four years old, and a boy after all.”

It seemed like he was happy with my growth.

Anyway, I wanted to ask about weapons. Was it unnatural for a 3-year-old to suddenly ask about weapons rather than about seeing a cityscape or picnics for the first time? But I want to hear what I want to hear! I can’t control my urges.

“First of all, it’s the sword I use. Even swords have different kinds, depending on width and sharpness.”

“What kind of sword is yours, Dad?”

“The sword that I brought today was a normal sword. You can find it everywhere.”

“Do you have different swords?”

“There’s a sword that can be used in battles or when subjugating strong monsters. It’s a masterpiece made by a famous blacksmith.”

“Is it different from a normal sword?”

“That’s right. Even monsters with incredibly hard scales can be cut in half.”

“Can I use it?”

“That’s difficult. It’s not something you can easily handle unless you have the skill and expertise.”

“That’s right…”

It’s disappointing, but I don’t think I can use a sword.

“But there are some things that can produce great power even without skill.”

“Eh! Really?”

I was excited to know about it.

“It requires some magic power, but there are magic swords that are endowed with magic power. If you do that, you can imbue the sword with fire, water, or lightning. Even an amateur can become quite strong if you have magic power.”

At the end of the day, it’s just another sword.

“I see! So, are there any weapons that can shoot projectiles?”

“Hmm, I guess we should pour oil on the rocks, set them on fire, and throw them with a trebuchet, or shoot flaming arrows at the enemy.”

“Of course…”

After all, there are no firearms in this world…It’s so sad that I feel like crying. Anyway, according to Gram, weapons in this world include swords, spears, bows and arrows, morning stars, and other medieval weapons. Even though it is called a sword, it is said that those struck by famous blacksmiths are said to be precious weapons, and there are also magic swords that are imbued with magical power. Furthermore, the weapons used differ depending on the school.

I felt the need to take notes.

“Are trebuchets and bows and arrows the only weapons that can be used to attack distant objects?”

“If you’re talking about attacking things far away, it’s probably magic. It can fly as far as an arrow.”

I see, magic can be used as a means of attack, but since it’s a world of swords and magic, it doesn’t seem like people rely that much on projectiles.

“However, you can carefully watch your opponent’s stance and avoid the magic at the moment it is released, especially if it comes from a distance. You need to be careful with magic that can cause damage over a wide area. Or when it comes in light or darkness. Those are the kinds that prevent you from using your original power.”

“I see. Dad has fought against mages before, right?”

“Yeah, a couple of times”

“Is there any armament that can block magic?”

“There is. There are armors and shields that have magical powers. Some mages can nullify magic with magic power. But it’s best to avoid them.”

I wonder if there is armor that gives magic power, but weapons would be preferable. Even though I can only use strange magic that can only produce bullets, I can manage it if I have armor that gives me magic power. Is there a weapon shop? I’d like to go there. I thought to myself and grinned.I didn’t really care about the geography of another world anymore.

Next, I wanted to ask more about magic, but Iona was more knowledgeable on it, so I was told to ask later. While we were talking, the carriage continued along the cobblestone street for a while.

Well, it’s another world, so let’s just take a look at the scenery and not say it doesn’t matter.

For a while, there were many luxurious-looking Western-style buildings surrounding my house, and I only occasionally saw elegant-looking people, women in maid outfits, and people dressed like butlers.

Eventually, we entered an area lined with small one-story houses with no decorations, shops, and greengrocers. Suddenly, the people on the streets began to change. A variety of people come and go in a hurry, and their clothes give the impression of being random pedestrians. They are probably what you’d call townspeople.

But, it definitely feels like another world.

[Wow…I’m so excited.]

When I looked behind me, there was a castle so huge that the Western-style perspective seemed strange. I think it’s quite far away, so I could tell that the castle is huge.

“Is that the castle where Dad works?”

“That’s right. It’s huge, right!”

Gram said proudly.

Yeah, it’s big! It looks bigger than Tokyo Dome. Grams works there. I wonder if it’s like being a Japanese national civil servant? What rank does a Royal Knight have?

In my previous life, my cousin was a national civil servant, an official at the Japanese Foreign Ministry, and we often went to drinking parties, and I think she gained a lot of weight. She was a woman, but because she was young, she was always asked out by big people…compared to that, her glamor was toned down.

“Dad is amazing!”

“Right now, your dad is the captain of the security guard over there.”

Grams said proudly.

Oh, Captain of the Guard? Is it a career advancement course? I don’t understand the system, so I don’t know how amazing it is.

Before I knew it, the streets had become even more chaotic. Apparently there are also inns and bars. There were a variety of people, including some wearing leather armor, some in tattered robes, and others in poor clothing. It seems that there are also travelers who are not residents of this town.

“There are all kinds of people around here.”

“That’s right. Adventurers and merchants who have just arrived.”

“Adventurer…?”

After all, speaking of another world, it’s about being an adventurer. But, the town is full of life.

[Adventurers?… I wonder if there is a guild?]

After driving for another 30 minutes by horse-drawn carriage, a wall rose on the outskirts of the royal capital. This seems to be used to block the invasion of monsters.

[Aren’t there monsters? Is it okay to go outside?]

There was a large gate on the wall leading out of the royal capital. The gate was wide open, and passers-by and horse-drawn carriages were bustling in and out, and it looked like there was a gatekeeper checking it out.

“Good morning, Gram-sama.”

The gatekeeper called out to us.

“It seems like you are doing your job without cutting corners.”

“Yessir! Without a hitch.”

“Thank you for your continued support.”

“Yessir!”

As our carriage approached, the gatekeeper saw Gram’s face, straightened his back, and greeted him. Gram is probably of much higher position than the gatekeeper. It was something called a face pass. Anyway, unlike a car, a horse-drawn carriage isn’t very comfortable to ride…my butt was starting to hurt.

When we left the gate, there was a vast grassland. A road stretches out there. Short grass and white and purple flowers were blooming on the roadside. The breeze carried the scent of fresh spring flowers.

Is it because it’s near the Royal Capital? It feels tranquil and peaceful.

The carriage continued to run along the grassy road. The further we got from the castle walls, the less people we passed by.

From time to time, several horse-drawn carriages were coming from the opposite direction. Walking together were people with swords hanging from their waist, people with axes, and people who looked like mages in robes and carrying staff.

“Dad, are those people adventurers?”

“That’s a merchant’s carriage. He’s probably going to the capital to do business. The people around the carriage are adventurers and hired guards.”

Swords, axes, and spear wielder. And maybe a mage? …Is it okay if two of the four are in the vanguard, one is in the middle, and the mage is in the rear? Right now, the swords and spears are on the left and right of the lead carriage, the wizard is in the middle, and the ax is leading at the front, which would be the case if they were escorting something.

If you shoot the horse at the front of the caravan from a long distance with a single shot and stop it from moving, kill the magician before they know the direction of the attack, and take out the horse in the last carriage, it won’t be able to move. If we make it into a long-term battle, even if we’re just one person, they won’t be able to do anything, right? There’s no means of communication either.

Unless there are reinforcements or detached troops. I imagined what I would do to win against the adventuring party.

No… there’s no point in thinking about it. I’m not planning on doing something like a robbery.

“It’s quiet.”

“There are no monsters around here. It’s peaceful.”

This area is not far from the Royal Capital, so it seems that there are no monsters. Still, Gram had brought a sword just in case.

After about 30 minutes of slowly driving the carriage, the river came into view. Just when I thought I was nearing the limit of pain in my butt, I finally got to get off the wagon. Anyway, the carriage ride was a pain in the ass. It’s hard for me, a modern Japanese person, to have no suspension or damper.

After giving the horse some water in the river, we tied it to a thick tree in front of the bridge and moved it to the lakeside. When I turned around, the horse had started eating weeds on the roadside. There was a thicket in front of the lake, with trees growing here and there, but the view was good. Maria laid out a rug on the shore and skillfully prepared the food.

When I approached the shore of the lake and looked in, I was surprised to find that the water was shallow and clean. Sometimes I could even see small fishes in the sparkling water.

“Try putting your feet in.”

Gram said with a kind face.

I took off my shoes and socks and gently tried putting my feet on them. Cold! It’s still spring, so of course it’s cold. Or rather, are there four seasons in this country? My memory from a few months ago was that it was winter, so it’s probably possible.

The water was clean and felt great. It’s just too cold and I’ve reached my limit. When we got out of the lake, Maria wiped my feet. She’s efficient.

After that, we decided to talk while eating the food. It seems that the only weapons in this world are those from the Middle Ages in my previous life…that alone is a shame.

When I saw the butt that had been injured by the horse-drawn carriage, the medieval-looking cityscape, and the incredibly clear river, I realized once again that I had come to another world.

So…there are no guns after all.

That was all I was thinking about.
